Explore Griffin Cafe

Griffin Cafe is one of those places you hear about through word of mouth and immediately understand why people keep coming back once you step inside. Located at 36508 Event Rd, Geismar, LA 70734, this café feels like a true neighborhood lunch spot, known for hearty Southern comfort food and a welcoming, down-to-earth atmosphere. The menu offers a solid lineup of homestyle favorites, but many regulars gravitate toward the daily lunch specials, which often feature classics like baked chicken that’s well-seasoned, tender, and cooked just right. The food consistently arrives hot and satisfying, with portions that reflect the café’s focus on real, filling meals rather than fancy presentation. Dishes such as lasagna stand out for their slightly sweet sauce, while sides like candied yams, spinach, and rice with gravy showcase familiar Southern flavors, even if a few items lean more toward comfort than refinement. Burgers, especially those topped with crispy bacon, are another popular choice, and creamy macaroni and cheese-often referred to locally as spaghetti and cheese-adds to the sense of home cooking that defines the place. The café can get busy during lunch hours, and seating is somewhat limited, which speaks to its popularity with both dine-in guests and those grabbing meals to go. Despite the lunchtime rush, the staff is known for being friendly and attentive, keeping things moving efficiently. Drinks are straightforward, with canned options or fountain beverages, and dine-in guests can enjoy free refills. While the interior may feel a bit warm at times, the overall experience remains comfortable and inviting, especially for anyone looking for food that tastes like it came straight from a Southern kitchen rather than a commercial chain.

My coworker took me here for lunch. So glad he did. The staff was wonderful and it was a good little lunch spot. They had a menu but I chose off the daily lunch special. Baked chicken. It was all very good I finished it. The only thing would be limited seating during lunch even though it seemed enough for the time I came. There was a good line of people and alot of them picked up and left. The AC seemed to be having issues so they had portable units and they look to be in for some time now but it's OK at least they are trying. It was a bit warm in there but bearable. They have can drinks or fountain.

Awesome place..southern comfort food at its finest. Could eat my weight in candied yams..if you scoop them up with bread it tastes like homemade pie. Double bacon burger was rolling..bacon was very crispy. Lasagne gets 5 stars, bit of a sweetness to the sauce which I love, needed a little bit more meat. Spinach was delicious, no dirt flavor whatsoever. Rice and gravy was ok. The rice was a bit mushy. Meatloaf was good, not my favorite. Eveything was served hot. Free drink refills with dine in

It was just what I needed, it was as close to home cooking as it gets. The baked chicken was seasoned and cooked perfectly. Oh how I love cheesy and creamy spaghetti and cheese, that's macaroni and cheese for non-Louisiana palates. What's best is it is chicken as grown, not the steroid pumped chicken.

This is the only soul food establishment in Ascension Parish (Louisiana), to my knowledge. The food is great, especially the lasagna, and the customer service is awesome. I definitely recommend that you check this place out if you’re looking for a home cooked meal.

This is a restaurant that I enjoy more and more each time I visit there. I mainly get it to go. I’ve never had a bad meal or bad service at this place. Great plate lunches with home-style dishes cooked the way it’s supposed to be done. If you’re looking for food the way you had it as a kid, this place is perfect. Smothered pork chops or chicken that won’t disappoint. These ladies know how to cook!
